F. Micheal DeJoode

F. Michael DeJoode was born November 1, 1947 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Arie and Alice Maxine (Bachman) DeJoode. Mike was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1966. In November of 1967 he was inducted into the United States Army. Mike served his country honorably in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart of Valor. He was discharged in June of 1969. Mike worked construction all of his life, mostly for McAninch Corporation. “Iron Mike” or “Big Mike” as he was known by his colleagues started as an operator, then became a foreman and retired after 37 years as a supervisor.


In his spare time, Mike restored antique John Deere tractors. He grew a large garden every year and shared the bounty with family and friends. Mike truly was a perfectionist in every project he undertook. He was a great “Uncle Mike” to his nieces and nephews. Mike passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Iowa Methodist, in Des Moines, at the age of 76 years

He was preceded in death by his father, Arie and brothers: Gary and Larry.
Those left to honor Mike’s memory include his mother, Maxine; brother, Dennis of Des Moines; sister, Patricia (Michael) Brzezinski of De Pere, Wisconsin; adopted niece, Katie Bug; best friend, Jim Flanders; many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
A Graveside Service for Mike DeJoode, age 76 of Pleasantville, will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasantville Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasantville American Legion Post No. 108.
