PELLA, IA – The Friends of the Pella Community Center will host an open house on Saturday, March 23rd from 10 AM to noon. The community is invited to join volunteers and supporters at the Community Center for coffee time and walking tours of the historic facility.
There will also be a short program at 10:30 in the auditorium to provide the public with updates on plans to renovate and modernize the Community Center. Monte Goodyk from Pella Fiber will also be sharing a preview of a documentary he is working on about the Community Center and the important role it has played in the history of Pella.
“The Pella Community Center is such a treasure for this community. Not only does it hold special memories for so many who went to school here, but it also provides such important services and activities for families in Pella today,” notes Pati Van Zante, President of the Friends of the Pella Community Center.
The Friends of the Pella Community Center and additional volunteers have been working to raise funds to support efforts to modernize the Community Center. Known as The Heart of Pella Campaign, funds raised will create a safer, more accessible, and technologically enabled Community Center.
Pati added, “We know there are so many great organizations in Pella, and we are tremendously thankful that so many people and businesses have stepped forward to support this important project.”
The short program, beginning at 10:30 in the auditorium, will highlight the historical significance of the community center, the important role it plays today, and the plans for the future. Planned improvements include the addition of a new atrium that will serve as a single point of entry to the building, as well as a larger elevator that will reach all levels of the building. As part of the plans, the Heritage Gym would also be reopened to the public, and other important updates, such as bringing HVAC and electrical up to date, would be completed.
