Central lands six on CSC academic all-district basketball squads


PELLA-Six Central College players were named to the Academic All-District® Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.50 or better cumulative grade point average (4.00 scale). All-district honorees are now under consideration for CSC Academic All-America® honors. Freshmen ae not eligible.


Named to the women’s squad are center Allison Van Gorp (junior, Pella, Pella Christian HS) and guards Jasmyn Williams (sophomore, Denver, Colo., Arvada West HS) and Samantha Scott (junior, Davenport, North Scott HS). Selected for the men’s team are forward Kole Tupa (senior, Center Point, Center Point-Urbana HS) and guards Kaleb Brand (senior, Mount Vernon) and Nolan Brand (senior, Mount Vernon). Tupa, Kaleb Brand and Nolan Brand were each selected for the second time.


Van Gorp carries a 3.56 grade point average with a kinesiology major. A three-time second-team American Rivers all-conference choice, she averaged 11.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Williams carries a 3.76 GPA with an elementary education major. She averaged 4.2 points and 2.2 assists per game. Scott has a 3.88 GPA and a kinesiology major. She averaged 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The women’s squad posted an 11-14 mark.


Tupa has a 3.76 GPA with a social sciences major. He averaged 10.2 points and 6.7 rebounds. Kaleb Brand carries a 3.79 GPA with a business management major. A second-team all-conference pick, he averaged 14.9 points and 3.4 rebounds. Nolan Brand has a 3.94 GPA and an elementary education major. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds. The Dutch men’s squad was 17-9 this season. The all-district honorees are under consideration for CSC Academic All-America® honors. The team will be announced April 16.
