Structure fire Saturday afternoon

On April 13th, 2024, at 1522 hours, the Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire spreading to the deck and structure.  While en route, KFD was notified by dispatch that they had received multiple calls, and the house was now on fire and spreading to the garage and a camper nearby.  Knoxville City Fire Department responded with one engine company, one EMS company, and two command officers.  While en route a working fire assignment was requested.  When units started to arrive on scene a second alarm was requested.  Department arrived to find the rear of the home on fire spreading to the garage.  Engine crew pulled two lines, one to protect the garage and another to the rear of the structure.   Crews searched the home and rescued two dogs that were reunited with their owners.

Fire extended into the structure, but crews were able to quickly get inside and made a stop of the fire before it extended further into the structure.  KRFD was able to get the brush fire extinguished that was extending down a fence line towards a shed on the property.

The house suffered significant fire, heat, smoke, and water damage.  The garage and camper suffered heat damage.   The fire started when the owner was burning yard waste earlier in the day.  They assumed the fire had been extinguished, but as the wind picked up though the day embers were blown under the deck where it started the deck on fire which then spread to the house.  Neighbors noticed the fire and called 911.  The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family.
