Overall staff costs up 24 percent in Pleasantville

An agreement between the Pleasantville School Board and the Pleasantville Education
Association was approved at Tuesday’s regular meeting. Overall, staff costs will
increase for the district by 24.79 percent, which includes the State’s increase in teacher
pay.

As reported, Iowa law was changed to increase the base salaries for public educators.
The localized pay increase for those covered under the PEA collective bargaining
agreement will be 3.69 percent. Although excluded from the new state teacher compensation plan, all staff covered by the collective bargaining agreement will be included locally in the new teacher
compensation minimum salary thresholds. In addition to classroom teachers, this
includes school nurses, school counselors, instructional coaches, etc.

The district and association agreed that starting with the 2023-2024 school year,
certified staff members covered by the collective bargaining agreement will receive a
$500 “retention reward” on their base salary for every consecutive five years of service
to the district. Employees have the responsibility to notify the district of this achievement
every 5 years in order to qualify for the retention reward program.
