Pella girls on to State

Pella varsity girls’ tennis is headed to the State Tournament.
The team defeated Ballard 5-2 Tuesday night on the Dutch’s home courts to earn the
right. They are set to face Clarinda this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Atlantic.
Last Friday, the Dutch defeated Centerville and Pella Christian 5-0 to get to the substate
meet. Each match against the Big Red was won in two sets.
Scores against the Eagles were as follows:

  1. Emily Blom defeated Rachel Lanferman, 6-1, 6-1
  2. Alloree Else defeated Reagan De Vries, 6-3, 6-2
  3. Claire Smock defeated Leah Mulder, 6-1, 6-1
  4. Mallory Westerkamp defeated Ava Breems, 6-3, 6-2
  5. Lily VanDusseldorp defeated Lexi Branderhorst, 6-1, 6-1

In the State-Qualifying meet, Ballard came in at 12-2. Ballard’s number four and number
five were successful in overcoming their Dutch opponents in three sets. Blom, Else and
Smock swept the 1-3 matches and Bryn Higginbotham picked up another win at number
six. Blom and Smock also took a doubles match 6-4, 6-0.
