Connie Rae Carter was born August 19, 1958, in Knoxville, Iowa to Donald and Lyla Mae Etcher Carter.
Connie was the oldest of three daughters, she welcomed Vickie and Tammy as little sisters. The family
moved to California where they grew up near Santa Anna. Connie graduated from Santa Anna High
School in 1977. This is where her passion for the ocean and the beach began. She was a self-described
"Beach Freak". Connie made many long lasting friendships with classmates and friends from California
and in later years was very thankful for Facebook helping to keep the distances small between them.

Connie was pretty adventurous and loved to travel and take some chances, so it is no surprise that she
was attracted to someone she described as looking like a "hardened criminal", an "all star wrestler", or a
"Hell's Angel".  John Stegman won her heart by having such a big and loving heart himself. He was
working the Oil Rigs in Wyoming when they met, they were married and made their home in Oskaloosa,
Iowa, as she worked for Paslode Corporation and John worked for Clow. After John was diagnosed with
cancer, they began driving truck over the road together. Connie and John were a perfect fit together and
they enjoyed life to the fullest, but John died on April 21, 2011, such a great loss to Connie.

Connie loved to go to the Sprint Car Races and did not miss many races throughout the Midwest. Her
sister Tammy was her race buddy attending the races and they also both worked at Dingus. Racing had
to take a bit of a back seat as she got the travel bug and started going on cruises enjoying an occasional
Miami Vice while sitting on the beach listening to the ocean. Connie and her family have had some epic
adventures sailing together and making memories of a lifetime.

Of course her greatest love was her family, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her including her
mother, Lyla Carter; children: Jeremy (Caroline) Carter, Jason (Ashley) Stegman, and Jessica (Zach)
Huth; grandchildren: Dylan (Jess), Madison "Raelynn", Braden, Taylor (Braydon), Hailey, Ashlyn, and
Kittle; great grandchildren: Cyrus and Kyson; siblings: Vickie (Terry) Chambers and Tammy Carter; along
with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Connie passed away August 23, 2024 at the Knoxville Hospital. Preceding her in death was her father,
Don Carter; husband, John Stegman; grandson, Riley; and great grandson Waylon.
