on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Memorials in Betty’s honor may be

Betty Ann Lacey was born June 27, 1953, in Chariton, Iowa, to Clell and Frances Halferty
Lacey. Just two weeks after her birth her mother, Frances, passed away. Her mother’s brother,
Edward and his wife Florence Halferty raised Betty. She remained close with her father, but she
considered Edward and Frances her parents.

She attended school in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School in 1971. Shortly after
graduating, she married Larry Remster, they were blessed with three boys: Chad, Jason, and
Cory. The couple later divorced, and Betty never remarried. Betty was not afraid of hard work.
She made a loving and welcoming home for herself and the boys. Many of the boys’ friends also
thought of her as a mom, the house was always full and full of love.

Betty was a hard-worker and had worked on road crews, construction, home cleaning, and bar
tending. Her career job was with the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS)
working as a Retirement and Benefits Specialist. She also moon-lighted for the DOT as a
snowplow driver. She was an excellent plow driver and loved the job. It was fitting that she
passed away at the beginning of a big snowstorm.

Her personality was big, and she enjoyed life and made everyday fun. She enjoyed traveling
and especially enjoyed the trip to Hawaii that her boys arranged for her. She loved her garden
and rock collections sharing this love with her grandchildren. They also loved playing cards
together, spending time with family at the cabin, and loved her dogs and rabbits. Her boys and
their families were her greatest joy.

Betty passed away February 11, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was
preceded in death by her parents: Clell and Frances Halferty Lacey; stepmother, Freda Lacey;
and uncle and aunt, Edward and Florence Halferty; a brother, Jim Halferty; and brothers-in-law,
Frank Carruthers and Mike Osborn.

Betty will be greatly missed by her sons: Chad (Autumn) Remster, Jason (Melissa) Remster,
and Cory (Ashley) Remster; grandchildren: Jessica (Kyle), Larry, Seth, BrieAnna, Austin, and
Oliver; great grandchild, Jonesy; siblings: Caryol Lacey Morrow, Sherry Carruthers, Judy
Osborn, Pat (Sandy) Halferty, and Linda (Keith) Fenley; sister-in-law, Elaine Halferty; along with
many relatives and friends.
