David Lee Johnson was born October 28, 1978, in Iowa City, to Dave and Malinda
Johnson. He grew up in Melcher-Dallas with his siblings: Rob, Angela, Derrick, and
Lindsay, excitement was always just around the corner. You could never tell what
trouble David might get into or just what he might talk his siblings into doing. His fun-
loving attitude and mischievous practical jokes never diminished as he grew older.
David made long-lasting friendships and always valued those special bonds. His home
was a hub of activity and everyone was welcome anytime.
David has always had a wide range of talents and excelled at everything he tried. He
learned to play any instrument he picked up and could sing as well as compose, which
led to the formation of many bands and friendships. He was a tattoo artist, flew
ultralight airplanes, loved making wine, and collecting guns. One of his favorite
pastimes was cooking, and he loved to invite everyone over as he smoked a brisket or
pulled pork. David loved being outdoors playing in the mud, riding four wheelers, finding
arrowheads, or maybe making an arrowhead and throwing in the creek for someone
else to find (He was kind of ornery like that).
His greatest joy was his family. David was so proud of his kids and adored his
grandchildren, they were truly the light of his life. His entire family was so important to
him, and he has always treasured the time spent with them.
David was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in November, and it has been a courageous
battle since then. Through his family he fought with courage and strength. David passed
away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Jenny; parents, Dave and Malinda;
children: Natalie (Tyler) Mulder, Trevon (Dailynn) Johnson, Tori (Logan) Johnson and
Ollea Johnson; grandkids: Avelynn Fee, Grayson Smith, Rowen Ford and Havens
Chatterton; siblings: Rob (Jessica) Johnson, Angela Allen, Derrick Johnson and Lindsay
(Kyle) Gerke; grandma, Nalta Brown and many other relatives and friends.
