Sally Kay Murphy

Sally Kay Murphy, 77, of Chariton, Iowa passed away on March 22, 2025. A celebration of life
gathering will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Pierschbacher Funeral
Home in Chariton.
Sally was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering patience throughout her life. For
nearly 30 years, she dedicated herself to teaching special education, where she touched countless
lives with her caring nature and commitment to her students. Her passion for helping others was
evident in everything she did, and she was deeply respected by both her colleagues and the
children she guided.
Outside of her teaching career, Sally had a wide array of interests that highlighted her creative
spirit. She was an accomplished quilter, artist, and seamstress, spending hours crafting beautiful
items with her hands. She found joy in gardening, tending to her flowers and vegetables with
love and attention. Sally also loved going to the Iowa State Fair, and was an avid camper.
Sally’s culinary skills were equally impressive. She was a talented cook, known for her
extraordinary ability to prepare delicious meals. The holiday season was her favorite time of
year, when she would go all out to prepare extravagant meals for her family, creating lasting
memories with every dish.
Sally’s love for her family and the simple joys of life will be remembered by all who knew her.
Her legacy of warmth, creativity, and kindness will live on through the lives she touched.
Sally is survived by her children Mick Murphy, Kathy Ridenhour, Kris Murphy, Will (Angie)
Murphy, and David Murphy; grandchildren: William, Ivy, Alex, Lille, Rose (John), Oli, and
Samantha; great grandchildren: Zoya, Navaeh, Noah, and Mabel; brother, Tom (Gay) Redding;
and a sister in-law, Doris Redding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Bertha Redding; brothers, Bill and Ted
Redding; and a granddaughter, Malloree Murphy.
Memorials in Sally’s name may be directed to her family to be designated at a later date.
