Alice Maxine DeJoode

Alice Maxine DeJoode was born on April 20, 1929 in Columbia, IA, the daughter of Frank and Mary Bachman. Maxine was raised on the family farm and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1946. On April 2, 1947 she was united in marriage to Arie DeJoode after he had served in the US Navy in WWII.
They started farming North of town in 1953 where they raised five children and were married for 40 years before Arie passed in 1987. Maxine held onto the family farm for 71 years before passing. Maxine loved all the things of being a farmer: vegetable gardening, canning, flower gardening, baking, raising chickens, pigs, sheep and milking cows.
Maxine worked at Pleasantville High School for 36 years as a Librarian and Teacher Aide and retired in 2002 with an Award of Merit for Loyal Service. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church; Red Hats Club; Garden Club; 73 year member of Pleasantville Ladies American Legion Auxiliary; Honorary Member FFA Chapter; longtime PHS Alumni member; and member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern Star Knoxville Chapter since 2006. She loved supporting her family thru all the years of school functions and sporting events.
Maxine took the heavenly journey on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 95 ½. She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings: Lucille Freel and Larry Bachman; her husband, Arie and sons: Michael, Gary and Larry DeJoode.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Dennis DeJoode of Des Moines and Pat Brzezinski (Mike) of Wisconsin; Sister Bonnie (Allen) Merrill of Harrison, Arkansas; grandsons: Chad and Ryan DeJoode and Brian Brzezinski and granddaughters: Diane Greuel, and Emily and Janie of Arizona; great-grandchildren: Hanna, Abby, Jake of Pleasantville; Lea and Abby of Wisconsin and Clementine DeJoode and great-great grandson Walker Glover of Knoxville. Many other nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services for Maxine DeJoode, age 95 of Pleasantville, are Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantvile at 10:30 A.M. with burial in Pleasantville Cemetery. Luncheon following at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The family will hold a visitation on Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St Paul’s Methodist Church or the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Pleasantville.
