On 10/10/2024 at approximately 1659 hours ITFD was requested at 1904 Highway 5 for a barn on fire. Personnel at the fire station immediately requested Bussey Fire, Knoxville City Fire and Knoxville Township Fire for tenders and manpower. At 1701 hours ITFD responded with an engine, a tender, a brush truck, an ambulance and 11 personnel. At 1704 hours first arriving crews found a fully engulfed, wind driven barn fire that had spread to the nearby house. Columbia fire was then requested for a tender. Crews immediately began an aggressive interior attack on the house. Members of these crews included a combination of firefighters from all departments involved. The fire had extended from the exterior of the house to the attic space. The fire in the house was quickly extinguished. However, there was extensive smoke and water damage to a majority of the structure. Overhaul on the structure was extensive to ensure all fire was extinguished. There were several cats rescued by firefighters inside the structure. The barn was a total loss. Nobody was injured in the fire. The fire is being investigated by a Marion County Sheriffs Office fire investigator.
