Extra law enforcement presence

This year is no different than any other, as law enforcement will have a greater
presence on roads and highways through Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
The Knoxville, Pella and Pleasantville Police Departments, and the Marion County
Sheriff’s Office, have shared their desire for everyone to have a good time – but be
responsible.
“We want people, obviously, to spend a good quality time with their friends, family,
everybody else, but do it in a responsible manner,” Sheriff Jason Sandholdt said. “We
really want them to be responsible and have a designated driver. Have a plan. Don't go
there and think, ‘Oh, I'm going to have two’ and end up having eight and try to make it
home. So be safe and have a Merry Christmas.”
“During the buys travel season of Christmas, as well as during the New Year’s Eve
festivities, we encourage everyone to slow down, wear their seatbelt, eliminate
distractions and do not drink and drive,” Captain Paul Haase of the Pella PD added.
