George King
June 18, 2026
A graveside service for George King, 65, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Adel, will be held on
June 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Liberty Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to
the graveside from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in
Knoxville.
In 1960, on Christmas Eve December 24 th , George was born. This led to two fabulous
women, Gladys Jean and Mary Kathryn that raised him. In 1979, George graduated
from Twin Cedars High school.
After graduation he worked at Clow in Oskaloosa and then for a brief stint he was a
page runner at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. George then joined the Air Force in 1981
as a fuel specialist. There were many stories he enjoyed telling and loved to educate
others from his time in the force. In 1984, he decided to come home. He married Nicole
Bailey in 2007 and later divorced. In 2011, George found work at the Waukee
Community Schools working as a custodian and maintenance man. He really enjoyed
his time there and most of all the connections he had with staff and the children were so
near and dear to his heart. He stayed with the Waukee Community Schools until 2025
when he was brought into retirement due to Parkinsons diagnosis.
There are many things George took interest in. He loved the National Hot Rod
Association races and would take many “spur of the moment” trips to go watch them.
He loved to just travel in general and loved to sight-see. His favorite team to cheer on
was Iowa State, no matter what sport season it was.
If you saw George, he probably had a Diet Mountain Dew in his hand while talking your
ear off about races or the last Iowa State ball game. He was always warm hearted and
at times a bit ornery. George was the kind of friend who would stand by your side in a
time of need and always thought of others first and put their needs before his.
George will be remembered by his significant other, Beth Ann Wales; his sisters, Debra
Bear and Katheryn Harrington; along with many other extended relatives and friends.
He is preceded by his parents; brother-in-law, Leroy Harrington, and uncle, Dennis
“Denny” King.
