December 16, 2024
Diane Denise Brown-McCall, 65, passed away on December 10, 2024, in Des Moines,
Iowa. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at
Attica United Methodist Church in Attica, Iowa. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m.
prior to the service. Diane will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery.
Diane was born on November 14, 1959, to Lloyd and Zella (McDonald) Brown. She
grew up in Attica and attended Twin Cedars High School. She graduated with the class
of 1978. Diane treasured her Twin Cedars classmates, never losing touch and talking
on a regular basis. In school, her friends called her “Zebra.” To this day, Diane kept an
extensive zebra collection in her home. She held numerous positions during her career.
She worked for Perkins CPA offices, Department of Human Services, and the Onawa
Democrats.
Diane was a kind soul who loved people. One of her favorite pastimes was writing and
receiving handwritten cards and letters. Diane and her friends would include countless
thoughts in each letter. Occasionally the envelope would be sealed and ready to be sent
and another thought would cross her mind. She would write it on the outside of the
envelope just to make sure her thoughts were written down. Diane loved to plan parties
even if they didn’t come to fruition. She always had the best and boldest ideas for any
gathering.
Anyone who knew Diane could attest to her kindness. She always had a smiling face
and was willing to talk. Diane had a great sense of humor, even referring to herself as
“Lady Di.” She also had a great affection for animals. She had two Australian Shepards
which were her constant companions and partners in crime, Snuggles and Sugar.
Diane is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Henry McCall; her dear friends
who always made sure Diane had what she needed: Dean Ayers, Frances Milledge,
and Patty Fudge; and many loving cousins.
Diane was preceded by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Attica United Methodist Church.
