Robert Edward Allen

Robert Edward Allen, age 88, of Bussey, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Mahaska Health Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa, IA.

Edward was born on May 7, 1936, at home in Lucas County to Vernal Otho and Marjorie Pearl (Perkins) Allen. He grew up attending country school and later graduated from the Knoxville High School. On April 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Verdadean Fee and to this union, 4 children, Ross, ZoeAnn, Randol, and Joy, were born. Edward and Verdadean were blessed with 68 years of marriage prior to her passing on September 18, 2023.

Edward worked at Maytag when he was younger. He spent many years on the farm raising hogs and cattle as well as row cropping. He later owned and operated R.E. Allen Trucking for many years. He enjoyed participating in tractor pulls and collecting and restoring John Deere tractors, both full sized and toys. Edward’s true joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Edward is survived by his 4 children, Ross (Doris) Allen, ZoeAnn Allen, Randol (Darla) Allen, and Joy (Steve) Trude; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Verdadean; and his parents, Vernal and Marjorie Allen.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Edward’s family present to greet family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Marty Williams officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the American Legion in Albia. Following the luncheon, burial will be held at Olive Chapel Cemetery in Marion County.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Olive Chapel Cemetery in Marion County or Pringle Cemetery in Mahaska County.
