Des Moines male facing several charges

On March 3, 2026, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the city of Melcher-Dallas for reports of a subject breaking into vehicles. During the investigation, deputies determined that two trucks and multiple cars in the area had been entered. One firearm was reported to be stolen from a vehicle. Through continued investigation, deputies identified 21-year-old August Cawley as a suspect. Cawley was not immediately located, and the case remained active with assistance from partnering law enforcement agencies. On March 18, 2026, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service,located Cawley and took him into custody without incident. He was then transported back to the Marion County Jail and booked on the following charges: • Four counts of Violation of Probation • Theft in the 1st degree • Theft in the 2nd degree • Felon in Possession of a Firearm Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues. AS WITH ANY CRIMINAL CASE, A CHARGE IS MERELY AN ACCUSATION AND A DEFENDANT IS PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
